My Writing Process
Posted Apr 7 2014
Thanks to author Logan Belle, a.k.a. Jamie Brenner, for inviting me to participate in the “My Writing Process” blog tour! Under her ‘real’ name, Jamie Brenner is the author of the 1920’s novel The Gin Lovers which Fresh Fiction named as one of the Top Thirteen Books to read in 2013 and described as “Downton Abbey meets Fifty Shades of Grey.” As Logan Belle, she writes contemporary romance and erotic romance with plenty of twists and turns, but always with an HEA. In this blog tour, authors share a bit about their writing process. Here are some details about mine:
1) What am I working on? I’m working on book #8 in my IRS Special Agent Tara Holloway series. This book will be called Death, Taxes, and Cheap Sunglasses. In this book, Tara goes after people running specious nonprofit organizations, while her boyfriend and fellow special agent Nick goes deep undercover to pursue a drug cartel.
2) How does my work differ from others of its genre?
I’d have to say it’s my goofy sense of humor. I tend to toward sassy and slightly warped.
3) Why do I write what I do?
Because it’s so much fun! I love sitting down at my computer and seeing what kind of outrageous situations I can think of to toss my characters into. Writing is a great escape!
4) How does my writing process work?
I’m definitely a planner. Before I write a single word, I prepare a detailed spreadsheet that outlines where the story will be going. Surprises still pop up along the way, but at least I have a roadmap so I won’t end up going over a cliff. I write every day, even on weekends. If the weather’s good, I write outside on my patio. If the weather’s bad, I write on my couch or in bed. Sitting at a desk stifles me, because desks are for working and my writing has never felt like work to me. It feels more like play and entertainment. I wish everyone could have a job they loved this much!

Nice to know!! So excited
Haha! Our terrier mix and shepherd mix are certainly selective, too. They hear "treat" without fail, but "down" or "no!" don't always register. Raggs is such a cute name!
Reggie certainly looks happy! My own dog, Raggs, has "selective" hearing--and he's not well trained. But. Our dogs are family and we do love them.
Thanks, Barbara! I wish I could write faster, too! My ideas are backing up in my head. : ) I wish my brain had a USB port where I could automatically download the stories from my mind to the page. I'm so glad you enjoyed the book! I'm hard at work on the second one, A Trip with Trouble.
I LOVED getaway with Murder. The second book can't be published soon enough. Can you write any faster? ;-)
Always fun to read about other writers’ processes. Can’t wait to be part of the next stop on the tour.
Take care,
Barb
